Half baked ideas

Lately, I’ve been trying to convince take-out customers to get their pizzas half-baked, or par-baked.  It’s an excellent way to ensure that you can eat your take-out pizza piping hot from the oven.  All you have to do is preheat your oven to about 400 degrees, slip the pizza from the box onto a middle rack, bake it for a few minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the crust golden, take it out, cut it, and eat it.

It’s the best way I know of to get your fresh pizza pretty close to how it comes to you in a good pizzeria.  I’m always a bit concerned when somebody orders a takeout and then doesn’t pick it up for an hour or so.  The pizza gets a bit cold, dry, and it just isn’t perfect anymore.

The best way to order, especially if you’re not going to eat the pizza right away, is a half-baked, uncut pizza.  We’ll make it like we make all our pizzas, put it in the oven for just a few minutes, then slide it in the box for you, whole.

After you heat it up, you don’t even need a pizza cutter to make slices.  Just use a chef’s knife, or even a bread knife to cut the slices you want.  Of course a round pizza cutting wheel is the best and you can buy them for about $10 or so.  A large pizza pan will run you only a few bucks.

When finishing a pizza, even if you have a pizza stone, put the pie on a rack in the middle of the oven.  A pizza stone is just used for making a pizza from scratch and, ideally, needs to be heated for an hour or more.  To finish baking a par-baked pie, you only need to preheat the oven for about 10 minutes.

So, please give it a try.  I think you’ll be very happy getting a par-baked pizza from Bobby G’s.  Yeah, you do have to do a couple of minutes work (no more than that) but it’s well worth the effort.
