We at Speakeasy have worked together with a local San Francisco coffee roaster, Ritual Roasters, to create a special blend of our Payback Porter and their Chapadao de Fero coffee. With a twenty-four hour cold infusion of one pound of coffee per barrel of porter we managed to blend the sweet and subtle flavors of the Brazilian, natural, lightly roasted coffee with the chocolate and dark roasted barley flavors of our Payback Porter. With neither the coffee, nor the porter overpowering the other, the aromas and flavors blend perfectly presenting a uniquely complex ale.
Appearance: Deep rich brown, verging on black, with a thick froth of mocha colored head.
Aroma: Sweet coffee aromas backed by bitter chocolate.
Taste: Complex but balanced mixture of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and dark caramel sugars play off each other, with the addition of coffee balancing the slight sweetness of the porter. The flavor finishes with roasted barley and a slight hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Light carbonation and the addition of oats in the mash make a body weighing between the average porter and stout in heaviness, with a silky smooth finish that just coats the mouth.
